Search engines like Google are constantly changing their algorithms they use to process, index, and rank your pages. In fact, Google has done that over 500 times last year.
On May this year, Google confirmed to have made such a change and it appears to be fairly substantial. The change has caused many sites to loose their positioning and while it seems to be specific to certain types of keywords called long-tailed keywords (keywords with 3 or more words) Google never releases specifics and at the moment there is no clear way of determining how your site would have been affected.
One way of determining whether you were affected is checking the crawl/indexing rate using the Google Webmaster Tools.

Whether you are considering partcipating in social media or you are already involved, one of the most important aspects about the process requires a lot of listening. Listening, in terms of social media, refers to monitoring what others are saying and includes, among other things, reading what other people, competitors, and industry leaders are blogging about.
A blog is nothing more than an online publication of newspaper-like articles. The publisher of the blog periodically posts articles with information targeted towards the interest of their readers.
With so many sources, you can see how keeping up with all of the blogs you are interested in would quickly become a full time job. Fortunately, it doesn't have to be. Several years ago, a standard for sharing was developed that allows readers to aggregate all of their blogs into one place. The term is RSS reader. There are numerous free RSS readers on the web and some that you can install but the concept is the same: bringing all of your blogs together... |

While Social Media presents a great number of opportunities, it is not immune to having some pitfalls. Here are a few things you should consider and avoid.
Followers are not results
Savvy Social Media users know what an influential person looks like. From buying followers for pennies on eBay to automatic scanning software, sometimes called ‘bots,’ Social Media folks know that having a big following does not make you influential. These users will recognize you are over-compensating and are quickly turned off.
It is not free
While many of the tools and Social Media networks software are free to use, the investment of your time is massive. Researching and developing interesting and engaging content takes a lot of your time and effort. Consider using tools that make it easy to manage your efforts of publishing such as Social Media Presence Management tools. ... |

While you can argue the medium is changing, the principles of traditional networking are not much different in Social Media. Here are some things to remember when participating in Social Media.
You are having a conversation, not preaching
Social media conversations are not monologues. Do not engage on dissertations and ask for contributions.
If not Interesting, why Broadcast it
If you don’t think the content you are considering publishing would be interesting to your audience, why broadcast it.
Passion, Passion, Passion
Find a topic you are passionate about. Passion is sticky and infectious. A dull message delivered by a passionate person will be accepted as brilliant. An excellent message delivered by a dull person will not engage the enthusiasm of its intended audience.
Don’t get caught Selling
Remember how you feel when you’re approached by salespeople. People simply will not accept... |

Content effectiveness in Social Media means the level of engagement by your target audience with your content. The following are some examples in order of effectiveness.
Research
Surveys, poll results, or your own research is the most effective way of becoming relevant. People are always looking for relevant, original, and interesting data.
White Papers
White papers are a great way of presenting innovative ideas and give the opportunity to offer alternatives to the status quo. White papers are most effective when they present an actual real-life implementation that delivered positive results and a pragmatic implementation.
Case Studies
Case studies not only explain your value proposition in an easy to read story board or story telling approach, but it also gives you the opportunity to demonstrate positive results.
Simplification
Make sense out of chaos. Researching a topic and incorporating it into a well thought out, simple terms, anyone can can understand argument, makes for very interesting content.... |

Search Engine Asset
Content is a search marketing asset. Much of the conversations in Social Media are permanently recorded. Blog entries and comments, for example, are indexed and made available for searching by search engines.
Marketing Amplifier
Quality numbers amplify your voice. A dedicated and engaged following makes for a more targeted delivery of your marketing message.
Continuous Improvement
Social Media makes for a great marketing research tool. Data available in Social Media allows you to answer relevant questions. Do you measure up to competition? What are they doing that you are not? How will you stand out among other competitors? Furthermore, it allows you to gauge your competitors' intellectual strengths and weaknesses.
Value Proposition Research
Exposes problems in your value proposition argument. Helps you better understand how people feel about your organization, product, or service.
Lead Generator
The ultimate reward for effective Social Media participation is the fact that it generates leads to new business. Whether by referral or direct inquiries, if you are interesting enough, people will approach you when the opportunity comes. Social Media connects you with Just-In-Time searchers ready to commit. Moreover, it helps you connect with your buyers’ friends before they recommend to their friends.... |

It is essential to keep social media personal. Folks typically like to talk to a person and not a robot or a brand. But just how personal is personal. The 'rules of engagement' have not changed from traditional marketing to digital or social media marketing. It is good practice to tend to avoid engaging in politics or religion in business settings, for example, and this is not different in social media.
Love it or hate it the Internet is a 'permanent record' of sorts. Knowing this, here are two things to think about:
Any tweets, postings, comments, for example, are not only recorded permanently but subject to being indexed by search engines and other content consumers in the web. In many cases, this ends up in multiple copies of the content attributed to you. There are no 'take back stupid comment' buttons on the web.
Whether tweeting, bloggig, or commenting on blogs, most everything you share in the web are short out of context snippets. This leaves your readers/viewers like prospects... |

There is no doubt that getting traffic to your site and exposure online increases your chances of developing leads.
Here is how the Chamber is helping you on this regard:
Over the last 30 days, the Chamber has gotten over 5,300 pageviews where over 500 of these are views of the member directory page. This translates to over 500 opportunities for someone to find you. Need I remind you that a photo of a funny profile guy doesn't help connect your name with your face?
PageRank for the Chamber, a metric Google uses to measure how relevant a site is, is now 3 (out of 10) ... this might seem low but considering the average website PageRank is from 0 to 1 we are doing great. This is especially amazing when we have not yet started any search engine optimization. It is a well known fact that search engines like Google and Yahoo rank your site higher when links pointing to your site are highly relevant. Find your PageRank for free, visit http://www.pagerank.net/pagerank-checker/. ... |
